Wedding Olympics FAQ's
Q: What if I don’t want to compete?
A: If you do not want to compete, but still want to attend, please email ipp@awpaustin.com and request to be a judge! We are a competitive group, and each team needs a judge to stay with them the ENTIRE time.
Q: Do I need to be athletic?
A: This is the WEDDING olympics, we are open and welcoming to all. Yes, some activities are more running/throwing based but there are plenty that are skill based, or just silly. Also due to team sizes not everyone actively participates in each game, so just being there as a cheerleader is just as important!
Q: Can we request team members?
A: We want everyone to know everyone in our amazing Austin wedding community, so for this event we do create the teams and do not take requests. Each team will have an AWPA planner as their team captain and then vendors from a variety of fields. We want the teams to have a mix of florists, djs, caterers, photographers, etc so that we can all shine in our own way and get to know new people. But keep in mind, this is October, and we are busy, and we have over 100 people to divide into teams. So have some grace with us if some of the people on your team already know each other. We are a tight community and sometimes it just happens.
Q: Will I be on the same team as my guest?
A: No. We will split up co-workers (even married business partners) and vendors who bring guests (even if they are in a different vendor category). Remember, we want you to meet new people!
Q: How and when will I find out my team?
A: One week after registration closes you will get an email from AWPA with your team color and all team members. From that point on you can plan out your outfits, extras, spirit building ideas, whatever you want! Remember, the spirit award is up for grabs, so this is part of the games!
Q: What do I wear?
A: Your team captain will help the team plan the outfits, but you will be assigned a color, so wear as much of that as possible! AWPA will provide bandanas for all participants, but thats all. And don’t worry judges, you will also get a team email with what to wear!!
